Elf on the Shelf

Today, I am grateful for the Elf on the Shelf. My younger son is obsessed with our elf, Chris. Chris doesn't show up until December 1, and it's a good thing he didn't forget this year. Sometimes, he likes one spot for a few days and doesn't move around, but I'm determined he'll enjoy some of the impish poses I've seen on Pinterest, such as burying his head in a bag of M&Ms.

What silly holiday tradition makes you grateful today?

  1. My heritage is Dutch, and we still "celebrate" the arrival of Sinterklaas on the morning of Dec. 6th. We place our shoes under the Christmas tree on the 5th, and the next morning, lo and behold! we've been visited by Sinterklaas! He leaves chocolates and a Christmas tree ornament and maybe even a small gift.
Our kids are now 28, 27 and 24 - and even though they've know for years that Sinterklaas is really mom, they play along. This year, things were a little tight financially, and our daughters pitched in by buying the ornaments and gifts. We had to push Sinterklaas' arrival up a few days, to coincide with the kids all being home from the cities they now reside in, but he showed up, right on time!
