Running Smile

You're late leaving school,
I pull forward and brake,
wait for the running smile.

Jack was held in the building a bit late this afternoon, and he knew he was late. He left the building running, with a smile, to my car and climbed in. Then he surprised me. "I'm sorry I'm late! I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" As he entered the car, the running smile was somehow replaced by panic, worry that he was in trouble. I have no idea where that panic came from; perhaps his teacher had urged him to hurry.

But I just wanted the running smile back.

The running smile is such a blessing.

Whose running smile thrills you? Whom can you bless with a running smile today?

  1. The only running smile I see in my retirement is my dear postman, what a treasure he is, but always in a hurry.
Some days if I catch him I am able to give him a smile back...hopefully today :)

  2. I love all smiles. They are such important greetings. John is a very serious man. So, when I get a big smile from him I feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

I try to smile at everyone I see. Everyone.

  3. Back in my church in IL, there was a very sweet older lady who always had a smile for everyone in spite of how much she was suffering physically. Whenever I get discouraged I remember her and try to keep a smile on my face. She has since gone to heaven.

My youngest granddaughter has a very infectious smile. She's not quite two, but I sure hope she never loses that smile.
